Number of Depressions/Deep Depressions formed over the North Indian Ocean during 1952-2012

There have been total 377 Depressions/Deep Depressions formed over the North Indian Ocean during the period from 1952 to 2012 with an annual average of 6.18 Depressions/Deep Depressions. The year having occurrence of maximum number of Depressions/Deep Depressions formed over the North Indian Ocean was 1952 with 12 Depressions/Deep Depressions. While each one of the five years viz. 1963, 1972, 1975, 1977 and 1982 had 11 Depressions/Deep Depressions.

The detailed analysis of month wise data shows that the maximum number of Depressions/Deep Depressions formed over the North Indian Ocean during the period from 1952 to 2012, have occurred in the month of October, which accounts for 70 (18.57%) out of the total 377 Depressions/Deep Depressions formed over the North Indian Ocean during the period. October month had an average of 1.15 Depressions/Deep Depressions per year during 1952 to 2012.The second highest occurrence of Depressions/Deep Depressions took place during the month of June which had 61 Depressions/Deep Depressions during the period. The minimum occurrence of Depressions/Deep Depressions took place in the month of March with an average of 0.02 Depressions/Deep Depressions i. e. only 1 Depressions/Deep Depressions formed over the North Indian Ocean in the month of March during the period from 1952 to 2012.
