The total number of convicts under total IPC crime in India during 2013 (at the end of the year) was 113678. The number of male convicts under total IPC crime was 109018 while the number of female convicts under total IPC crime was 4660.
The top 10 States/UTs with the highest number of convicts under total IPC crime in 2013 were: Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Haryana, Chhattisgarh, Punjab, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal and Karnataka. The top 5 States accounted for 51.4% of total number of convicts under total IPC crime in India during 2013 (at the end of the year).
Uttar Pradesh had 23179 convicts under total IPC crime in 2013, which was 20.4% of total convicts under total IPC crime in India. The number of male convicts under total IPC crime was 22261 while the number of female convicts under total IPC crime was 918. Madhya Pradesh had 15494 convicts under total IPC crime in 2013, which was 13.6% of total convicts under total IPC crime in India. The number of male convicts under total IPC crime was 15019 while the number of female convicts under total IPC crime was 475. Maharashtra had 7315 convicts under total IPC crime in 2013, which was 6.4% of total convicts under total IPC crime in India. The number of male convicts under total IPC crime was 6945 while the number of female convicts under total IPC crime was 370. Haryana had 6313 convicts under total IPC crime in 2013, which was 5.6% of total convicts under total IPC crime in India. The number of male convicts under total IPC crime was 5986 while the number of female convicts under total IPC crime was 327. Chhattisgarh had 6112 convicts under total IPC crime in 2013, which was 5.4% of total convicts under total IPC crime in India. The number of male convicts under total IPC crime was 5834 while the number of female convicts under total IPC crime was 278.
Dadra and Nagar Haveli, and Lakshadweep had no convicts under total IPC crime in 2013.
