Number of Convicts of Murder in 2013

The total number of convicts of murder in India during 2013 (at the end of the year) was 68199. The number of male convicts of murder was 65589 while the number of female convicts of murder was 2610.

The top 10 States/UTs with the highest number of convicts of murder in 2013 were: Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, Haryana, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and West Bengal. The top 5 States accounted for 54.35% of total number of convicts of murder in India during 2013 (at the end of the year).

Uttar Pradesh had 14211 convicts of murder in 2013, which was 20.84% of total convicts of murder in India. The number of male convicts of murder was 13866 while the number of female convicts of murder was 345. Madhya Pradesh had 10315 convicts of murder in 2013, which was 15.12% of total convicts of murder in India. The number of male convicts of murder was 10020 while the number of female convicts of murder was 295. Maharashtra had 5024 convicts of murder in 2013, which was 7.37% of total convicts of murder in India. The number of male convicts of murder was 4873 while the number of female convicts of murder was 151. Chhattisgarh had 4233 convicts of murder in 2013, which was 6.21% of total convicts of murder in India. The number of male convicts of murder was 4022 while the number of female convicts of murder was 211. Rajasthan had 3281 convicts of murder in 2013, which was 4.81% of total convicts of murder in India. The number of male convicts of murder was 3108 while the number of female convicts of murder was 173.

Dadra and Nagar Haveli, and Lakshadweep had no convict of murder in 2013, while Arunachal Pradesh had only one convict of murder in 2013.
