Number of Anganwadi Centres and Number of Beneficiaries under ICDS in Tamil Nadu as per SHB 2019

Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) is a government programme in India which provides food, preschool education, primary healthcare, immunization, health check-up and referral services to children under 6 years of age, pregnant women, lactating mothers and women between 16 – 44 years age group. The main thrust of the scheme is on the villages where over 75 percent of the population lives. Urban slums are also a priority area of the programme.

Based on the data published in the Statistical Hand Book (SHB) of Tamil Nadu 2019 by the Department of Economics and Statistics, the graph generated shown below, clearly exhibits the district wise break up of number of Anganwadi Centres under ICDS in Tamil Nadu, in which the number of Antenatal Women and Post Natal mothers who have benefitted under Supplementary Nutritious Programme and the number of Children who have benefitted in Preschool Education under the age group of 2-5 years in the year  2017-18.

Among the 32 districts in Tamil Nadu, Vellore district has the most Number of Anganwadi Centres with 2999 numbers, followed by Villupuram district (2941) and Salem district (2696).
