Monthly Growth in Wireless and Wireline Telephone Subscribers from April 2014 to February 2015

The total number of wireline telephones in India in April 2014 was 28361423. The percentage share of wireline telephones in total telephones in India in April 2014 was 3.03%. The total number of wireless telephones in India in April 2014 was 907451035. The percentage share of wireless telephones in total telephones in India in April 2014 was 96.97%. The total number of wireline telephones in May 2014 was 28184441 and their percentage share in total telephones in India declined to 3%. The total number of wireless telephones in May 2014 was 910164286 and their percentage share in total telephones in India increased to 97%. The total number of wireline telephones in June 2014 was 28025622 and their percentage share in total telephones in India declined to 2.97%. The total number of wireless telephones in June 2014 was 914966953 and their percentage share in total telephones in India increased to 97.03%.

The total number of wireline telephones in July 2014 was 27679684 and their percentage share in total telephones in India declined to 2.92%. The total number of wireless telephones in July 2014 was 918768554 and their percentage share in total telephones in India increased to 97.08%. The total number of wireline telephones in August 2014 was 27523280 and their percentage share in total telephones in India declined to 2.89%. The total number of wireless telephones in August 2014 was 924360056 and their percentage share in total telephones in India increased to 97.11%. The total number of wireline telephones in September 2014 was 27403492 and their percentage share in total telephones in India declined to 2.86%. The total number of wireless telephones in September 2014 was 930543149 and their percentage share in total telephones in India increased to 97.14%.

The total number of wireline telephones in October 2014 was 27280332 and their percentage share in total telephones in India declined to 2.83%. The total number of wireless telephones in October 2014 was 935387044 and their percentage share in total telephones in India increased to 97.17%. The total number of wireline telephones in November 2014 was 27144999 and their percentage share in total telephones in India declined to 2.82%. The total number of wireless telephones in November 2014 was 937094125 and their percentage share in total telephones in India increased to 97.18%. The total number of wireline telephones in December 2014 was 27000105 and their percentage share in total telephones in India declined to 2.78%. The total number of wireline telephones in January 2015 was 26867661 and their percentage share in total telephones in India declined to 2.74%. The total number of wireless telephones in January 2015 was 952251665 and their percentage share in total telephones in India increased to 97.26%. The total number of wireline telephones in February 2015 was 26722656 and their percentage share in total telephones in India declined to 2.71%. The total number of wireless telephones in February 2015 was 960617657 and their percentage share in total telephones in India increased to 97.29%.

Therefore, it can be easily inferred from the data that there has been a decline in the number and market share of wireline telephones; while there has been a very fast growth in the number and market share of wireless telephones in India during this period. There was net addition of 51527855 with the addition of 53166622 wireless telephones and decline of -1638767 wireline telephones during the period from April 2014 to February 2015. It underlines the preference of the telephone subscribers for wireless telephones.
