Money Spent on Promotion of Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana during 2014-15 to 2018-19

Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana (PMBJP) is a campaign launched by the Department of Pharmaceuticals, Government of India, to provide quality medicines at affordable prices to the masses through special kendras known as Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Kendra (PMBJK). PMBJK have been set up to provide generic drugs, which are available at lesser prices but are equivalent in quality and efficacy as expensive branded drugs. The main objective of the scheme is making quality medicines available at affordable prices for all, particularly the poor and disadvantaged, through exclusive outlets ‘PMBJK’, so as to reduce out of pocket expenses in healthcare.

We have witnessed an increasing trend in money spent on the promotion of PMBJP from 2014-15 to 2018-19. Compound annual growth rate of 88.75% has been seen in money spent on the promotion of PMBJP during 2014-15 to 2018-19.

Amount of Rs. 0.52 crore was spent on the promotion of PMBJP during 2014-15. It has increased by 80.77% to Rs. 0.94 crore during 2015-16 above 2014-15. Annual growth of 81.61% has been observed in money spent on the promotion of PMBJP during 2017-18 from Rs. 2.61 crore during 2016-17. Money spent on the promotion of PMBJP was Rs. 6.6 crore during 2018-19, up by 39.24% against Rs. 4.74 crore during 2017-18.

Maximum annual growth rate of 177.66% has been found in 2016-17 in money spent on the promotion of PMBJP during the period under consideration.
