Minor Injury Road Accidents in India during 2018

Road accidents occur due to multiple causes. Some of the causes are use of Mobile phone, drunken driving/ consumption of alcohol/ drug, overloaded Vehicle, poor light condition, jumping red light, over speeding, overtaking, neglect of civic bodies, weather condition, driving on wrong side, defect in road condition, defect in condition of motor vehicle, fault of cyclist and fault of pedestrian etc.

There were 467,044 road accidents in India during 2018, out of which 169,920 (36.38%) were minor injury road accidents. The top 5 States/UTs with respect to road accidents with minor injury in India during 2018 were Tamil Nadu, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.

The number of minor injury road accidents was 46,610 in Tamil Nadu during 2018, which accounted 27.43% of the total road accidents with minor injury in India. There were 32,817 road accidents with minor injury in Madhya Pradesh during 2018. It accounted 19.31% of the total road accidents with minor injury in India during the same period. The number of minor injury road accidents in Karnataka was 12,745 during 2018, which accounted 7.5% of the total road accidents with minor injury in India.

During 2018, there were 12,228 and 8,655 road accidents with minor injury in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh respectively. Telangana accounted for 7.2% and Andhra Pradesh accounted for 5.09% of the total minor injury road accidents in India during 2018.
