As on 31st January 2019, there were 6072901 Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) across the Country as per Udyog Aadhaar Memorandum (UAM) Portal. According to UAM almost 46.01% of MSMEs were owned by socially backward groups in India as on 31.01.2019; of which 32.2% belonged to the Other Backward Classes (OBCs), 10.48% belonged to the Scheduled Castes (SCs) and 3.33% belonged to the Scheduled Tribes (STs). The top 5 States/UTs with respect to number of MSMEs owned as per UAM portal as on 31.01.2019 were Maharashtra, Bihar, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat.
The number of MSMEs owned from Maharashtra was 909556 as per UAM Portal as on 31.01.2019; out of which 630978 (69.37%) belonged to General, 75389 (8.29%) belonged to SCs, 20525 (2.26%) belonged to STs and 182664 (20.08%) belonged to OBCs. Maharashtra accounted for 14.98% of the total MSMEs owned in India as per UAM portal as on 31.01.2019. There were 812521 MSMEs owned from Bihar as per UAM Portal as on 31.01.2019, which accounted 13.38% of the total MSMEs owned in India as on the same date. Out of the total 812521 MSMEs owned from Bihar; 22.8% belonged to General, 16.9% belonged to SCs, 4.34% belonged to STs and 55.96% belonged to OBCs. The number of MSMEs owned from Tamil Nadu was 716820 as per UAM Portal as on 31.01.2019; out of which 424793 (59.26%) belonged to General, 34411 (4.8%) belonged to SCs, 1891 (0.26%) belonged to STs and 255725 (35.67%) belonged to OBCs. Tamil Nadu accounted for 11.8% of the total MSMEs owned in India as per UAM portal as on 31.01.2019.
There were 666978 and 577780 MSMEs owned from Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat respectively as per UAM Portal as on 31.01.2019. Uttar Pradesh accounted for 10.98% and Gujarat accounted for 9.51% of the total MSMEs owned in India as per UAM Portal as on 31.01.2019. Out of the total 666978 MSMEs owned from Uttar Pradesh; 253216 (37.96%) belonged to General, 112133 (16.81%) belonged to SCs, 17049 (2.56%) belonged to STs and 284580 (42.67%) belonged to OBCs. Out of the total 577780 MSMEs owned from Gujarat; 518839 (89.8%) belonged to General, 10429 (1.81%) belonged to SCs, 4174 (0.72%) belonged to STs and 44338 (7.67%) belonged to OBCs.
