India witnessed a declining trend in the Infant mortality rate. Infant mortality rate has declined by 70% from 139 in 1972 to 42 in 2012. In 2012, Infant mortality rate reduced by 5% from 2011.A consistent decreasing trend has been observed from 1998 onward. During 1998-2012, Infant mortality rate has decreased by 42%.
