India has witnessed an increasing trend in gross import of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) from 2012-13 to 2018-19. However, we have observed compound annual growth rate of 8.5% in gross import of LNG by India during the period under consideration.
The gross import of LNG was 13,294 thousand metric tonnes (TMT) by India in 2012-13. It has surged by 106 basis points to 13,435 TMT during 2013-14 above 2012-13. In value term, it was Rs. 41,757 crore in 2012-13 and Rs. 53,455 crore in 2013-14. Annual growth of 10.42% has been seen in gross import of LNG by India during 2017-18 from 18,754 TMT during 2016-17. Gross import of LNG by India was 21,691 TMT in 2018-19, up by 4.74% against 20,709 TMT during 2017-18. The value of gross LNG imported was Rs. 41,084, 52,122 and 71,867 crore from 2016-17 to 2018-19 respectively.
The maximum annual growth of 16.18% has been found in 2016-17 in gross import of LNG by India during the period under consideration.
