Gross Enrolment Ratio (GER) or Gross Enrolment Index (GEI) is a statistical measure used in the education sector, to determine the number of students enrolled in school at several different grade levels (like elementary, middle school and high school), and use it to show the ratio of the number of students who live in that country to those who qualify for the particular grade level.

The GER in Elementary (I-VIII) education in India has decreased from 93.55% in 2016-17 to 92.19% in 2018-19, whereas it was 92.98% during 2017-18. We have observed decrease in GER in Secondary (IX-X) education in India from 79.35% during 2016-17 to 78.66% during 2018-19, whereas it was 79.28% during 2017-18. The GER in Higher Secondary (XI-XII) education in India has increased to 56.41% during 2018-19 from 55.4% during 2016-17, whereas it was 56.46% during 2017-18. We have seen increase in GER in Higher education in India from 25.2% during 2016-17 to 26.3% during 2018-19, whereas it was 25.8% during 2017-18.
