Funds Released under Scheme for Adolescent Girls from 2016-17 to 2018-19

Scheme for Adolescent Girls (SAG) is implemented under Umbrella Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) Scheme to improve the nutritional and health status of out of school adolescent girls of age 11-14 years and to upgrade their skills. In addition, to providing nutritional support to the adolescent girls, the scheme aims to motivate out of school girls to go back to formal schooling/skill training under its Non-Nutrition component. Information on health, hygiene and guidance on existing public services is provided under the scheme.

As per the scheme norms under SAG each State/UT is required to submit their Annual Programme Implementation Plan (APIP) to the Ministry for consideration of the Empowered Programme Committee. Accordingly, the funds are periodically released to the State/UT for implementation of the above scheme.

The top 5 States/UTs with respect to funds released under SAG during 2018-19 were Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh.

Funds released for Madhya Pradesh was Rs. 5442.4 lakhs under SAG during 2018-19, which accounted 26.67% of the total funds released in India under SAG. We have seen annual decline of -37.02% in release of funds for Madhya Pradesh under SAG during 2018-19 from Rs. 8641.18 lakhs during 2017-18. There was release of Rs. 5092.44 lakhs for Gujarat under SAG during 2018-19, up by 89.3% versus Rs. 2690.09 lakhs during 2017-18. It accounted 24.96% of the total funds released in India under SAG during 2018-19. Amount of Rs. 3536.78 lakhs had been released for Maharashtra under SAG during 2018-19, which accounted 17.33% of the total funds released in India under SAG. Annual decline of -11.48% has been observed in release of funds for Maharashtra under SAG during 2018-19 against Rs. 3995.68 lakhs during 2017-18.

During 2018-19, there was release of Rs. 1011.98 lakhs and Rs. 1000.35 lakhs for Andhra Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh respectively under SAG. Andhra Pradesh accounted for 4.96% and Uttar Pradesh accounted for 4.9% of the total funds released in India under SAG during the same period.
