The Government of India has implemented Janani Suraksha Yojana (JSY) in the entire country with objectives to reduce maternal and neo-natal mortality by promoting institutional delivery for making available medical care during pregnancy, delivery and post delivery period. The JSY scheme is not merely for distributing cash benefit, but for providing quality maternity services to the pregnant women too.
Total fund allocated/released under JSY in India was Rs. 197622.81 lakhs for 2018-19, down by -91 basis points against Rs. 199435.8 lakhs for 2017-18. We have seen growth of 1.91% in allocation of fund under JSY in India for 2017-18 above 2016-17 from Rs. 195704.48 lakhs. The top 5 States/UTs with respect to fund allocated/released under JSY in India for 2018-19 were Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and West Bengal.
Amount of Rs. 52618.35 lakhs was allocated/released for Uttar Pradesh under JSY for 2018-19, which accounted 26.63% of the total fund allocated/released under JSY in India. Annual decline of -57 basis points has been observed in allocation/release of fund for Uttar Pradesh under JSY in 2018-19 from Rs. 52919.66 lakhs in 2017-18. There was allocation/release of Rs. 34318.71 lakhs for Bihar under JSY for 2018-19. It accounted 17.37% of the total fund allocated/released under JSY in India for 2018-19. Bihar accounted for 17.37% of the total fund allocated/released under JSY in India for 2018-19. Fund of Rs. 21450.25 lakhs was allocated/released for Madhya Pradesh under JSY for 2018-19, which accounted 10.85% of the total fund allocated/released under JSY in India. We have seen annual growth of 6.18% in allocation/release of fund for Madhya Pradesh under JSY in 2018-19 from Rs. 20202 lakhs in 2017-18.
There was allocation/release of Rs. 19777.5 lakhs for Rajasthan and Rs. 9236.5 lakhs for West Bengal under JSY for 2018-19. Rajasthan and West Bengal accounted for 10.01% and 4.67% respectively of the total fund allocated/released under JSY in India for 2018-19. Annual growth of -4.79% and 19.05% has been observed in allocation/release of fund for Rajasthan and West Bengal respectively under JSY in 2018-19 above 2017-18.
