The Sub-Centre is the first contact point for primary health care for citizens. Sub-Centres provide services related to maternal and child health, family welfare, nutrition, immunization, diarrhoea control and control of communicable diseases programmes. Each Sub-Centre is required to be manned by at least one auxiliary nurse midwife (ANM) / female health worker and one male health worker. The data represents the number of Sub-Centres in tribal areas as on 31st March 2014. Five States/UTs of Haryana, Punjab, Chandigarh, Delhi and Puducherry have no separate Tribal Area.
On the basis of number of Sub-Centres functioning in tribal areas, top 5 States/UTs are West Bengal, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha and Jharkhand having 3195, 2938, 2908, 2689 and 2218 Sub-Centres respectively. In terms of the Sub-Centres functioning in Govt. Buildings, the above said 5 States/UTs i.e. West Bengal has 2205 Sub-Centres housed in Government Buildings (69% of the total 3195 Sub-Centres), Chhattisgarh has 2063 Sub-Centres housed in Government Buildings (70% of the total 2938 Sub-Centres), Madhya Pradesh has 2136 Sub-Centres housed in Government Buildings (73% of the total 2908 Sub-Centres), Odisha has 1513 Sub-Centres housed in Government Buildings (56% of the total 2689 Sub-Centres) and Jharkhand has 1165 Sub-Centres housed in Government Buildings (53% of the total 2218 Sub-Centres). Arunachal Pradesh (286 Sub-Centres), Mizoram (370 Sub-Centres), Andaman & Nicobar (41 Sub-Centres) and Daman & Diu (5 Sub-Centres) are the 4 States/UTs where all Sub-Centres are functioning in Government Buildings.
Goa (66 Sub-Centres) is the only State where no Sub-Centre is functioning in Government Building.
