Totally 9,718 teachers were sanctioned for Indian Institutes of Technologies (IITs) as on 09th December 2019; out of which 6,009 (61.83%) faculties were in position and 3,709 (38.17%) posts were vacant. The top 5 IITs with respect to maximum percentage of faculties in position as on 09/12/2019 against the sanctioned strength were IIT Tirupati, IIT Palakkad, IIT Delhi, IIT Ropar and IIT Mandi.
The number of faculties in position was 88 (94.62%) in IIT Tirupati as on 09th December 2019, out of sanctioned strength of 93 teachers. There were 81 faculties in position in IIT Palakkad as on 09/12/2019, which accounted 87.1% of 93 teachers sanctioned. The number of faculties in position was 663 (85.44%) in IIT Delhi as on 09.12.2019, out of sanctioned strength of 776 teachers.
As on 09th December 2019, there were 162 (81%) and 128 (80.5%) faculties in position in IIT Ropar and IIT Mandi respectively against its sanctioned strength.
The top 5 IITs with respect to maximum percentage of posts vacant as on 09.12.2019 versus the sanctioned strength were IIT (ISM) Dhanbad, IIT Dharwad, IIT Goa, IIT BHU (Varanasi) and IIT Bhilai. As on 09th December 2019, the number of posts vacant was 477 (61.08%), 50 (53.76%), 49 (52.69%), 317 (52.14%) and 46 (49.46%) in IIT Dhanbad, IIT Dharwad, IIT Goa, IIT BHU (Varanasi) and IIT Bhilai respectively against its sanctioned strength.
