India exports various Petrochemicals to foreign countries. The data shows the exports of various major Petrochemicals, viz., Synthetic Fibres, Fibre Intermediates, Polymers, Synthetic Rubber (Elastomers), Synthetic Detergent , Intermediates, Performance Plastics, Olefins, Aromatics, And Other Petro-Based Chemicals during the period from 2007-08 to 2013-14.
India has witnessed a fluctuating trend in exports of major petrochemicals during 2007-08 to 2013-14.
The exports of major petrochemicals have increased from 3157047 metric tonnes in 2007-08 to 4663181 metric tonnes in 2013-14, showing a growth rate of 47.65% during the said period. The compound annual growth rate (CAGR) during this period was 6.7%.
In value terms, the exports of major Petrochemicals have increased from Rs 1620132 Lakhs in 2007-08 to Rs 4143028 Lakhs in 2013-14, showing a growth rate of 155.72% during the said period at current prices. The compound annual growth rate (CAGR) in value terms during this period was 16.94% at current prices.
The CAGR in value terms i.e. 16.94% is much more in comparison to the CAGR in quantity terms i.e. 6.7%. This is partly due to inflation and partly due to the fact that various petrochemical manufactures/exports of India, have moved up the value chain and exporting more valuable high end products and/or to the foreign markets/countries, where they are able to get higher prices.
