Estimates of Production of Meat from 1998-99 to 2012-13

India contributes around 2 percentage of total meat production in the world. In 1998-99, the meat production of India was 1.9 million tonnes. The meat production of India was hovering around at the same level of 1.9 million tonnes during the years 1999-2000, 2000-01 and 2001-02. In year 2002-03, meat production was 2.1 million tonnes that was 10.5% growth as compared to year 2001-02. There was no growth in the year 2003-04, the production of meat remained at 2.1 million tonnes. In 2004-05, meat production was 2.2 million tonnes that showed 4.8% growth to year 2003-04. In year 2005-06, meat production was 2.3 million tonnes that showed 4.5% growth to year 2004-05. Year 2006-07 showed no growth in meat production as compared to year 2005-06. In year 2007-08, meat production was 4 million tonnes that showed a remarkable 73.9% growth as compared to the year 2006-07. Thus, the maximum growth rate in meat production was recorded in the year 2007-08 during the period under study.

In the year 2008-09, the meat production registered a growth of 5% as compared to year 2007-08 with 4.2 million tonnes of meat production. In year 2009-10, meat production was 4.5 million tonnes that showed 7.1% growth to year 2008-09. In year 2010-11, meat production was 4.9 million tonnes that showed 8.9% growth to year 2009-10. In year 2011-12, meat production was 5.5 million tonnes that showed 12.2% growth to year 2010-11. In year 2012-13, meat production was 5.9 million tonnes showing a growth of 7.3% vis-à-vis the meat production in the year 2011-12.
