Drinking water quality testing laboratories in India as on 16.11.2016

The total number of drinking water quality testing laboratories in India was 2233 (including State/ District/ Block/ Sub-Division) as reported by the States in Integrated Management Information System (IMIS) as on 16.11.2016. Out of which there were 88 drinking water quality testing laboratories with Mobile Laboratories and 2145 drinking water quality testing laboratories without Mobile Laboratories. 3.9% of total number of drinking water quality testing laboratories was with mobile laboratories facilities as on 16.11.2016.

The top 10 states in terms of the number of drinking water quality testing laboratories were: Karnataka, West Bengal, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Jammu & Kashmir, Gujarat and Tamil Nadu as on 16.11.2016.

The number of drinking water quality testing laboratories in Karnataka was 236. It accounted for 10.57% of the total number of drinking water quality testing laboratories in India. The number of drinking water quality testing laboratories in West Bengal was 220. It accounted for 9.85% of the total number of drinking water quality testing laboratories in India. The number of drinking water quality testing laboratories in Rajasthan was 197. It accounted for 8.82% of the total number of drinking water quality testing laboratories in India. The number of drinking water quality testing laboratories in Maharashtra was 187. It accounted for 8.37% of the total number of drinking water quality testing laboratories in India. The number of drinking water quality testing laboratories in Madhya Pradesh was 161. It accounted for 7.21% of the total number of drinking water quality testing laboratories in India.

The number of drinking water quality testing laboratories in Andhra Pradesh was 106. It accounted for 4.75% of the total number of drinking water quality testing laboratories in India. The number of drinking water quality testing laboratories in Assam was 103. It accounted for 4.61% of the total number of drinking water quality testing laboratories in India. The number of drinking water quality testing laboratories in Jammu & Kashmir was 98. It accounted for 4.39% of the total number of drinking water quality testing laboratories in India. The number of drinking water quality testing laboratories in Gujarat was 86. It accounted for 3.85% of the total number of drinking water quality testing laboratories in India. The number of drinking water quality testing laboratories in Tamil Nadu was 84. It accounted for 3.76% of the total number of drinking water quality testing laboratories in India.

The above mentioned top 10 states accounted for 66.19% of the total number of drinking water quality testing laboratories in India as a whole as on 16.11.2016.
