Crop Insurance Scheme-wise Claims Reported and Claims Paid to Farmers during 2014-15 to 2016-17

Various Crop Insurance Schemes namely National Agricultural Insurance Scheme (NAIS), Modified NAIS (MNAIS), Weather Based Crop Insurance Scheme (WBCIS), Coconut Palm Insurance Scheme (CPIS), Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) and Restructured WBCIS (RWBCIS); has been implemented by Government of India to insure the Farmers’ Crop during 2014-15 to 2016-17.

Claims reported was Rs. 426779 lakhs under NAIS during 2014-15; out of which Rs. 397843 lakhs (93.22%) Claims paid, benefitting 6381444 farmers. We have observed increase of 299.19% to Rs. 1703664 lakhs in Claims reported, 290.81% to Rs. 1554812 lakhs in Claims paid and 175.88% to 17605410 in Farmers benefitted during 2015-16 over 2014-15 under NAIS. Claims reported was Rs. 151951 lakhs under MNAIS during 2014-15; out of which Rs. 142422 lakhs (93.73%) Claims paid, benefitting 3056968 farmers. We have seen increase of 34.22% to Rs. 203945 lakhs in Claims reported, 24.69% to Rs. 177588 lakhs in Claims paid and 32.33% to 4045176 in Farmers benefitted during 2015-16 over 2014-15 under MNAIS.

Claims reported was Rs. 68139 lakhs under WBCIS during 2014-15; out of which Rs. 67911 lakhs (99.67%) Claims paid, benefitting 2325988 farmers. We have observed increase of 12.83% to Rs. 76878 lakhs in Claims reported, 12.93% to Rs. 76690 lakhs in Claims paid and decrease of -36.02% to 1488279 in Farmers benefitted during 2015-16 over 2014-15 under WBCIS. Claims reported was Rs. 3654080 lakhs under CPIS during 2014-15; out of which Rs. 3075330 lakhs (84.16%) Claims paid, benefitting 664 farmers. We have seen decrease of -95.42% to Rs. 167450 lakhs in Claims reported, -94.56% to Rs. 167450 lakhs in Claims paid and -98.34% to 11 in Farmers benefitted during 2015-16 over 2014-15 under CPIS. During 2015-16, 100% Claims had been paid to the Farmers under CPIS.

During 2016-17 (as on 19.07.2017), Claims reported was Rs. 644619 lakhs under PMFBY; out of which Rs. 473320 lakhs (73.43%) Claims paid, benefitting 6270612 farmers. During 2016-17 (as on 19.07.2017), Claims reported was Rs. 98546 lakhs under RWBCIS; out of which Rs. 47706 lakhs (48.41%) Claims paid, benefitting 1166915 farmers.
