Crime Head-wise Incidences under Offences against Property of IPC Crimes in India from 2014 to 2016

We have observed annual growth of 2.02% in incidences under offences against property of IPC crimes during 2016 in comparison to 4.36% during 2015. Incidences under offences against property under IPC crimes in India were 747678, 780248 and 796032 from 2014 to 2016 respectively. Various crime heads namely Theft, Criminal Trespass & Burglary, Extortion, Robbery, Dacoity, Making Preparation and Assembly for Committing Dacoity, Criminal Breach of Trust, Cheating and Arson were reported under offences against property of IPC crimes during 2014 to 2016. Among these crime heads; Theft, Criminal Trespass & Burglary and Cheating were the top 3 crime heads which had the maximum number of incidences during the same period.

The number of incidences reported under ‘Theft’ crime head was 494404 during 2016, up by 5.68% against 467833 incidences during 2015. It accounted 62.11% of the total incidences under offences against property of IPC crimes during 2016. Crime rate under ‘Theft’ crime head was 35.4, 37.2 and 38.8 during 2014 to 2016 respectively.

Annual decline of -2.08% has been seen in incidences under ‘Criminal Trespass & Burglary’ crime head from 114123 during 2015 to 111746 during 2016. It accounted 14.04% of the total incidences under offences against property of IPC crimes during 2016. Crime rate under ‘Criminal Trespass & Burglary’ crime head was 9.2, 9.1 and 8.8 during 2014 to 2016 respectively.

There were 109611 incidences reported under ‘Cheating’ crime head during 2016, down by -5.02% versus 115405 incidences during 2015. It accounted 13.77% of the total incidences under offences against property of IPC crimes during 2016. Crime rate under ‘Cheating’ crime head was 8.8, 9.2 and 8.6 during 2014 to 2016 respectively.
