Consumption of Natural Gas from 2011-12 to 2016-17

We have witnessed a compound annual growth rate of -6.99% in consumption of Natural Gas for Energy purpose during 2011-12 to 2016-17. An annual decline of -18.53% has been observed from 42421.619 MMSCM during 2011-12 to 34562.304 MMSCM during 2012-13 in consumption of Natural Gas for Energy purpose. We have seen an annual growth of 10.69% from 26683.25 MMSCM during 2015-16 to 29534.74 MMSCM during 2016-17 in consumption of Natural Gas for Energy purpose.

There are various sectors like Power, Industrial, Manufacture, Road Transport, City or Local Natural Gas Distribution Network, Tea Plantation, Internal Consumption for Pipeline System, Refinery and Miscellaneous consumed Natural Gas for Energy purpose during 2011-12 to 2016-17. The top 3 sectors in terms of highest weightage of total consumption of Natural Gas for Energy purpose during 2016-17 were Power, City or Local Natural Gas Distribution Network and Refinery. During 2016-17, Power sector has consumed 39.33% (11616.26 MMSCM) of total consumption of Natural Gas for Energy purpose followed by City or Local Natural Gas Distribution Network sector with 24.89% (7350 MMSCM) and Refinery sector with 18.2% (5374.37 MMSCM).

We have witnessed a compound annual growth rate of 3.07% in consumption of Natural Gas for Non-Energy purpose during 2011-12 to 2016-17. An annual growth of 5.97% has been observed from 18262.639 MMSCM during 2011-12 to 19352.287 MMSCM during 2012-13 in consumption of Natural Gas for Non-Energy purpose. We have seen an annual growth of 0.36% from 21166.4 MMSCM during 2015-16 to 21243.13 MMSCM during 2016-17 in consumption of Natural Gas for Non-Energy purpose.

There are various sectors like Fertilizer Industry, Petrochemical, Sponge Iron and LPG Shrinkage consumed Natural Gas for Non-Energy purpose during 2011-12 to 2016-17. During 2016-17, Fertilizer Industry sector has consumed highest weightage of 72.63% (15428.57 MMSCM) of total consumption of Natural Gas for Non-Energy purpose followed by Petrochemical sector with 19.63% (4170.06 MMSCM), Sponge Iron sector with 4.17% (885.05 MMSCM) and LPG Shrinkage sector with 3.58% (759.45 MMSCM).
