The quantity of prognosticated Coal Bed Methane (CBM) resources in India was 91.8 trillion cubic feet as on May, 2016. The top 5 states in terms of the quantity of prognosticated CBM resources were: Jharkhand, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Odisha and Chhattisgarh as on May, 2016.

The quantity of prognosticated CBM resources in Jharkhand was 25.5 trillion cubic feet as on May, 2016. It was 27.78% of the total quantity of prognosticated CBM resources in India as on May, 2016. Thus, the state of Jharkhand alone has more than one-fourth of prognosticated CBM resources in India.

The quantity of prognosticated CBM resources in Rajasthan was 12.7 trillion cubic feet as on May, 2016. It was 13.83% of the total quantity of prognosticated CBM resources in India as on May, 2016. The quantity of prognosticated CBM resources in Gujarat was 12.4 trillion cubic feet as on May, 2016. It was 13.51% of the total quantity of prognosticated CBM resources in India as on May, 2016.

The quantity of prognosticated CBM resources in Odisha was 8.6 trillion cubic feet as on May, 2016. It was 9.37% of the total quantity of prognosticated CBM resources in India as on May, 2016. The quantity of prognosticated CBM resources in Chhattisgarh was 8.5 trillion cubic feet as on May, 2016. It was 9.26% of the total quantity of prognosticated CBM resources in India as on May, 2016.

These top 5 states accounted for 73.75% of the total quantity of prognosticated Coal Bed Methane (CBM) resources in India as a whole as on May, 2016.

The quantity of prognosticated CBM resources in Madhya Pradesh was 7.7 trillion cubic feet as on May, 2016 (8.39% of All India). The quantity of prognosticated CBM resources in West Bengal was 7.7 trillion cubic feet as on May, 2016 (8.39% of All India). The quantity of prognosticated CBM resources in Tamil Nadu was 3.7 trillion cubic feet as on May, 2016 (4.03% of All India).

The quantity of prognosticated CBM resources in combined Telangana and Andhra Pradesh was 3.5 trillion cubic feet as on May, 2016 (3.81% of All India). The quantity of prognosticated CBM resources in Maharashtra was 1.2 trillion cubic feet as on May, 2016 (1.31% of All India). The quantity of prognosticated CBM resources in North East was 0.3 trillion cubic feet as on May, 2016 (0.33% of All India).
