The National Deworming Day (NDD) is observed on February 10 by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) , Government of India and its main objective is to deworm children between the ages of (1-19) at schools and anganwadi centres.
In February 2015, the MoHFW, Government of India launched the National Deworming Day as part of National Health Mission in 11 states/UTs including Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Haryana, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu and Tripura. The National Deworming Day has emerged as the world largest public health campaign for treatment of intestinal parasitic worms. After the unprecedented coverage of National Deworming Day with national level coverage of 89 million children, the MoHFW mandated the observation of the National Deworming Day at pan-India level from February 2016.
The number of children targeted on National Deworming Day in India was 269837021 during 2016. There were 6 states having more than 15000000 in terms of the number of children targeted on National Deworming Day viz. Bihar, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Odisha, West Bengal and Madhya Pradesh during 2016.
