Beneficiaries under Janani Suraksha Yojana from 2016-17 to 2018-19

The Government of India has implemented Janani Suraksha Yojana (JSY) in the entire country with objectives to reduce maternal and neo-natal mortality by promoting institutional delivery for making available medical care during pregnancy, delivery and post delivery period. The JSY scheme is not merely for distributing cash benefit, but for providing quality maternity services to the pregnant women too.

There were 10,459,547, 11,021,548 and 10,040,857 beneficiaries in India under JSY from 2016-17 to 2018-19 respectively. The top 5 States/UTs with respect to beneficiaries under JSY during 2018-19 were Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and West Bengal.

The number of beneficiaries in Uttar Pradesh was 2,069,740 under JSY during 2018-19, down by -33.65% against 3,119,591 during 2017-18. Annual decline of -28 basis points have been observed in JSY beneficiaries in Bihar from 1,396,203 during 2017-18 to 1,392,290 during 2018-19. The number of beneficiaries in Rajasthan was 1,020,259 under JSY during 2017-18. It has increased by 1.1% to 1,031,468 during 2018-19 over 2017-18.

There were 992,039 and 631,140 beneficiaries under JSY in Madhya Pradesh and West Bengal respectively during 2018-19. We have seen annual growth of -4.91% in Madhya Pradesh and 1.8% in West Bengal in JSY beneficiaries during 2018-19 above 2017-18.

Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and West Bengal accounted for 20.61%, 13.87%, 10.27%, 9.88% and 6.29% respectively of the total beneficiaries in India under JSY during 2018-19.
