Average Milk Yield per Buffalo across India during 2007-08 to 2011-12

India has witnessed a fluctuating trend in average milk yield per buffalo during 2007-2012. In 2007-08, average milk yield per buffalo was 4.41 kg per day across the country, which increased to 4.71 kg per day in 2011-12. Highest average milk yield per buffalo (8.64 kg per day) was in Punjab in 2011-12 followed by 7.81 kg per day in 2007-08 as compared to other states.
The lowest average milk yield per buffalo (1.84 kg per day) was in Meghalaya in 2011-12 and 1.46 kg per day in 2007-08 in Nagaland as compared to other states.

Twenty one States/UTs Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Goa, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Orissa, Tamil Nadu, Tripura, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Dadra & Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu are below the National average (4.71 kg per day) in 2011-12.

Note: Sikkim, Dadra & Nagar Haveli, Daman & Diu and Delhi figures from 2007-08 onwards are estimated based the number of animals in milk as per livestock census 2007 and the yield rate of concerned neighbouring state (for Sikkim yield rate of West Bengal, Dadar & Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu yield rate of Gujarat and for Delhi yield rate of Haryana) has been used except year 2011-12 data which is estimated based on previous year data calculated by annual growth of year 2010-11.
