ATM/Debit Card & Credit Card Frauds (Amount involved Rs. 1 lakh & above) reported by Scheduled Commercial Banks & Selected FIs from 2015-16 to 2018-19

During 2018-19 (upto 30-09-2018), there were 864 ATM/Debit Card & Credit Card frauds (Amount involved Rs. 1 lakh & above) reported by scheduled commercial banks and selected financial institutions (FIs); out of which 58.68% was for ATM/Debit Cards and 41.32% was for Credit Cards. The total number of ATM/Debit Card & Credit Card frauds (Amount involved Rs. 1 lakh & above) reported by scheduled commercial banks and selected FIs was 2013 during 2017-18; out of which 45.26% was for ATM/Debit Cards and 54.74% was for Credit Cards.

The number of ATM/Debit card frauds reported by scheduled commercial banks and selected FIs was 563 in 2015-16. It has increased by 28.6% to 724 during 2016-17 above 2015-16. We have seen annual growth of 25.83% in ATM/Debit card frauds reported by scheduled commercial banks and selected FIs to 911 during 2017-18. The number of ATM/Debit card frauds reported by scheduled commercial banks and selected FIs was 507 in 2018-19 (upto 30th Sept 2018).

The number of Credit card frauds reported by scheduled commercial banks and selected FIs was 616 in 2015-16. It has decreased by -114 basis points to 609 during 2016-17 above 2015-16. Annual growth of 80.95% has been observed in Credit card frauds reported by scheduled commercial banks and selected FIs to 1102 during 2017-18. The number of Credit card frauds reported by scheduled commercial banks and selected FIs was 357 in 2018-19 (upto 30th Sept 2018).
