Area Sown for Pulses under Rabi Crops during 2016-17 & 2017-18

Area sown for total Pulses was 169.1 lakh hectares during 2017-18, up by 5.29% against 160.6 lakh hectares during 2016-17. Pulses crops namely Gram, Lentil, Fieldpea, Kulthi, Urdbean, Moongbean, Lathyrus, Other Pulses were sown under Rabi crops during 2016-17 & 2017-18.

Annual growth of 8.13% has been observed in Area sown for Gram crop from 99.54 lakh hectares during 2016-17 to 107.63 lakh hectares during 2017-18. Area sown for Lentil crop was 17.3 lakh hectares during 2016-17. It has increased by 34 basis points to 17.36 lakh hectares during 2017-18 above 2016-17. We have seen annual de-growth of -46 basis points in Area sown for Fieldpea crop from 11.97 lakh hectares during 2016-17 to 11.92 lakh hectares during 2017-18. Area sown for Kulthi crop was 4.27 lakh hectares during 2017-18, up by 12.85% versus 3.78 lakh hectares during 2016-17.

Area sown for Urdbean crop was 9.93 lakh hectares during 2016-17. It has decreased by -4.94% to 9.44 lakh hectares during 2017-18 above 2016-17. Annual growth of 13.29% has been found in Area sown for Moongbean crop from 7.34 lakh hectares during 2016-17 to 8.31 lakh hectares during 2017-18. We have observed annual decline of -7.4% and -3.87% in Area sown for Lathyrus and Other Pulses crop respectively during 2017-18 above 2016-17. During 2017-18, Area sown for Lathyrus crop was 3.91 lakh hectares and Other Pulses was 6.28 lakh hectares.
