Annual Consumer Price Index and Wholesale Price Index Inflation Rate during 1999-2013

The annual rate of inflation, based on annual average Wholesale Price Index (WPI), stood at 7.8% in 2012-13, as compared to 8.8% in 2011-12. During 1999-2013, maximum WPI inflation (9.6%) was observed in 2010-11 and lowest WPI inflation(3.3%) was observed in 1999-2000. Over the first nine-years span, 1999-2000 to 2007-08, WPI inflation remained below 7 percent except one breach in 2000-01(7.2%) and in last five-years span, 2008-09 to 2012-13, WPI inflation remained well above 7 percent except in 2009-10 when it went down to 4.1%.

The annual rate of inflation, based on annual average Consumer Price Index (CPI), stood at 8% in 2012-13, as compared to 9% in 2011-12. During 1999-2013, maximum CPI inflation (13%) was observed in 2009-10 and lowest CPI inflation (3.4%) was observed in 1999-2000. Throughout the first nine-years span, 1999-2000 to 2007-08, CPI inflation remained well below 7 percent and in last five-years span, 2008-09 to 2012-13, CPI inflation remained above 7 percent.
