Analysis of First Census of Water Bodies in Arunachal Pradesh

The First Census of Water Bodies conducted in convergence with the 6 MI Census resulted in substantial savings in respect of planning, training of field staff, security, data entry, validation etc. because the  coverage area of both the Censuses in rural area is same. The First Census of Water Bodies also covered urban areas and took into account all types of uses of Water Bodies like Irrigation, Industry, Pisciculture, Domestic/ Drinking, Recreation, Religious purpose, Ground Water Recharge and other purposes.

In the first census of water bodies, 993 water bodies have been enumerated in Arunachal Pradesh. Out of which 893 (89.9%)  are in rural areas and the remaining 100 (10.1%) are in urban areas. Out of all water bodies, 739 (74.4%) are privately owned whereas the remaining 254 (25.6%) are under public ownership. By location, 988 out of 993 water bodies are in tribal areas.

The following charts shows the district-wise number of water bodies in Arunachal Pradesh. The highest number of water bodies in Papumpare District of Arunachal Pradesh while the lowest number of water bodies in Kamle District of Arunachal Pradesh.
