Ministry of MSME is implementing Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP), which is a major credit-linked subsidy programme aimed at generating self-employment opportunities through establishment of micro-enterprises in the non-farm sector by helping traditional artisans and unemployed youth.
We have observed annual growth of 10.9% in set up of agro-based food processing industries under PMEGP during 2016-17 from 8,065 projects during 2015-16. The number of agro-based food processing industries set up under PMEGP was 8,386 during 2017-18, down by -6.24% versus 8,944 during 2016-17.
The amount of financial assistance given in the form of margin money subsidies for setting up agro-based food processing industries was Rs. 22,964.54 lakhs under PMEGP in 2015-16. It has increased by 20.54% during 2016-17 above 2015-16. Annual decline of -3.15% has been seen in financial assistance provided in the form of margin money subsidies for setting up agro-based food processing industries under PMEGP to Rs. 26,809.66 lakhs during 2017-18 against Rs. 27,681.53 lakhs during 2016-17.
