Zone-wise Shortfall/Surplus (Excess) of Railways’ Income & Expenditure during 2015-16 and 2016-17

Railway Zones named Eastern, Northern, North Eastern, Northeast Frontier and Southern has been observed with shortfall during 2015-16 and 2016-17 as well. Eastern, Northern, North Eastern and Northeast Frontier zones had shortfall of Rs. -5330.66 crore, Rs. -4004.7 crore, Rs. -3117.98 crore and Rs. -3206.08 crore respectively during 2015-16 and Rs. -4770.3 crore, Rs. -3781.1 crore, Rs. -3047.06 crore, Rs. -1796.44 crore respectively during 2016-17. These zones were seen with decreasing in shortfall during 2016-17 in comparison to 2015-16. Southern zone is the only zone which is seen with increasing in shortfall from Rs. -2991.61 crore during 2015-16 to Rs. -3694.63 crore during 2016-17.

There are zones named Central, East Central, South Western and Western which were seen with surplus in 2015-16 but in 2016-17, these zones were seen with shortfall. Central, East Central, South Western and Western had surplus of Rs. 36.13 crore, Rs. 695.14 crore, Rs. 114.92 crore, Rs. 1152.01 crore respectively during 2015-16 and shortfall of Rs. -650.88 crore, Rs. -192.14 crore, Rs. -900.56 crore and Rs. -388.4 crore respectively during 2016-17.

There are zones named North Central, North Western, South Central, South East Central and West Central which were seen with decreasing in surplus during 2016-17 compared to 2015-16. North Central, North Western, South Central, South East Central and West Central had surplus of Rs. 5086.68 crore, Rs. 499.26 crore, Rs. 2920.5 crore, Rs. 5887.49 crore and Rs. 3743.14 crore respectively during 2015-16 and Rs. 3935.69 crore, Rs. 377.21 crore, Rs. 1944.9 crore, Rs. 5293.57 crore and Rs. 2567.22 crore respectively during 2016-17. East Coast and South Eastern zone are the zones which are seen with increasing in surplus from 2015-16 to 2016-17. East Coast zone had surplus of Rs. 6447.23 crore and Rs. 6925.55 crore during 2015-16 and 2016-17 respectively. South Eastern zone had surplus of Rs. 3400.6 crore and Rs. 3407.5 crore during 2015-16 and 2016-17 respectively.
