Top 10 States/UTs in terms of maximum Suicides due to Drug Abuse/Alcoholic Addiction during 2015

In India, there were 3670 Suicides reported due to Drug Abuse/Alcoholic Addiction during 2015. Out of these 3670 Suicides; 3513 (95.72%) were male, 157 (4.28%) were female and 0 (0%) was transgender during 2015. The top 10 States/UTs in terms of maximum Suicides due to Drug Abuse/Alcoholic Addiction during 2015 were; Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Telangana, Karnataka, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh.

There were 1271 Suicides reported due to Drug Abuse/Alcoholic Addiction in Maharashtra during 2015, out of which 1255 (98.74%) were male and 16 (1.26%) were female. It accounted 34.63% of the total Suicides in India due to Drug Abuse/Alcoholic Addiction during 2015. There were 561 Suicides reported due to Drug Abuse/Alcoholic Addiction in Madhya Pradesh during 2015, out of which 486 (86.63%) were male and 75 (13.37%) were female. It accounted 15.29% of the total Suicides in India due to Drug Abuse/Alcoholic Addiction during 2015. There were 422 Suicides reported due to Drug Abuse/Alcoholic Addiction in Tamil Nadu during 2015, out of which 411 (97.39%) were male and 11 (2.61%) were female. It accounted 11.5% of the total Suicides in India due to Drug Abuse/Alcoholic Addiction during 2015.

In Kerala, 418 Suicides were reported due to Drug Abuse/Alcoholic Addiction during 2015; which accounted 11.39% of the total Suicides in India due to Drug Abuse/Alcoholic Addiction. Out of these 418 Suicides in Kerala; 414 (99.04%) were male and 4 (0.96%) were female. In Andhra Pradesh, 162 Suicides were reported due to Drug Abuse/Alcoholic Addiction during 2015; which accounted 4.41% of the total Suicides in India due to Drug Abuse/Alcoholic Addiction. Out of these 162 Suicides in Andhra Pradesh; 159 (98.15%) were male and 3 (1.85%) were female.

These top 5 states accounted for 77.22% of the total Suicides due to Drug Abuse/Alcoholic Addiction in India as a whole during 2015.

During 2015, there were 105, 100, 94, 89 and 84 Suicides reported due to Drug Abuse/Alcoholic Addiction in Chhattisgarh, Telangana, Karnataka, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh respectively.

The above mentioned top 10 States/UTs accounted for 90.08% of the total Suicides due to Drug Abuse/Alcoholic Addiction in India as a whole during 2015.
