Foreign direct investment (FDI) is an investment made by an organization/entity in one country in an industrial/business activity in another country. FDI can take place in the form of establishing new business operations from scratch or acquiring existing business assets in the other country. FDI includes mergers and acquisitions, building new facilities, expansion of existing production capacity, etc. FDI usually involves control/participation in management, joint-venture, management expertise and technology transfer. It excludes investment through purchase of securities or portfolio foreign investment, a passive investment in the securities of another country e.g. shares and bonds.
In Agriculture Services sector from 2000-01 to 2016-17, there was a FDI Equity Inflow of USD 17.52 million, USD 14.06 million, USD 11.01 million, USD 0.59 million, USD 3.83 million, USD 9.08 million, USD 12.53 million, USD 58.13 million, USD 5.35 million, USD 1222.22 million, USD 43.9 million, USD 49.02 million, USD 161.47 million, USD 91.01 million, USD 59.95 million, USD 84.65 million and USD 76.43 million respectively.
During the year 2009-10, there was a huge FDI Equity Inflow in Agriculture Services sector, i.e., USD 1222.22 million. In this sector, there was a growth of FDI Equity Inflow of 229.40% during 2012-13 over 2011-12. In this sector, there was a growth of FDI Equity Inflow of -43.64% during 2013-14 over 2012-13. In this sector, there was a growth of FDI Equity Inflow of -34-13% during 2014-15 over 2013-14. In this sector, there was a growth of FDI Equity Inflow of 41.2% during 2015-16 over 2014-15. In this sector, there was a growth of FDI Equity Inflow of -9.71% during 2016-17 over 2015-16.
