According to NFHS-4; there are 44.8% Men (age 15-49 years) Tobacco users who have used any kind of tobacco during 2015-16 in India. Whereas according to NFHS-3; there were 57% Men (age 15-49 years) Tobacco users who had used any kind of tobacco during 2005-06 in India.
According to NFHS-4; there are 6.8% Women (age 15-49 years) Tobacco users who have used any kind of tobacco during 2015-16 in India. Whereas according to NFHS-3; there were 10.8% Women (age 15-49 years) Tobacco users who had used any kind of tobacco during 2005-06 in India.
The Top 5 States/UTs in terms of having highest percentage of Men (age 15-49 years) Tobacco users during 2015-16 are Mizoram, Meghalaya, Manipur, Nagaland and Tripura. According to NFHS-4; Mizoram, Meghalaya, Manipur, Nagaland and Tripura have 80.4%, 72.2%, 70.6%, 69.4% and 67.8% respectively Men (age 15-49 years) Tobacco users during 2015-16. According to NFHS-3, Mizoram had the highest 83.4% Men (age 15-49 years) Tobacco users during 2005-06.
The Bottom 5 States/UTs in terms of having lowest percentage of Men (age 15-49 years) Tobacco users during 2015-16 are Puducherry with 14.4%, Punjab with 19.2%, Goa with 20.8%, Chandigarh with 22.5% and Lakshadweep with 24.3%. According to NFHS-3, Goa had the lowest 27.8% Men (age 15-49 years) Tobacco users during 2005-06.
The Top 5 States/UTs in terms of having highest percentage of Woman (age 15-49 years) Tobacco users during 2015-16 are Mizoram, Manipur, Tripura, Meghalaya and Nagaland. According to NFHS-4; Mizoram, Manipur, Tripura, Meghalaya and Nagaland have 59.2%, 48.8%, 42.2%, 32.3% and 27.5% respectively Woman (age 15-49 years) Tobacco users during 2015-16. According to NFHS-3, Mizoram had the highest 60.8% Woman (age 15-49 years) Tobacco users during 2005-06.
The Bottom 5 States/UTs in terms of having lowest percentage of Woman (age 15-49 years) Tobacco users during 2015-16 are Punjab with 0.1%, Chandigarh with 0.4%, Himachal Pradesh with 0.5%, Daman and Diu with 0.5% and Kerala with 0.8%. According to NFHS-3, Punjab had the lowest 0.8% Woman (age 15-49 years) Tobacco users during 2005-06.
