State/UT-wise Under Five Mortality Rate during 2015-16

The Under Five Mortality Rate (U-5MR) is the number of deaths under five years of age occurring among the live births in a given geographical area during a given year, per 1,000 live births occurring among the population of the given geographical area during the same year.

As per NFHS-4, Under Five Mortality Rate declined in India from 74 in 2005-06 (NFHS-3) to 50 in 2015-16. Under Five mortality Rate in rural areas was 56 in 2015-16 and in urban areas, Under Five mortality Rate was 34 in 2015-16.

Uttar Pradesh had highest Under Five mortality Rate (64) during 2015-16 and 73 was in 2005-06. Kerala had lowest Under Five mortality Rate (6) during 2015-16 and 15 was in 2005-06 in comparison to other states.

Seven States/UTs viz. Uttar Pradesh (78), Madhya Pradesh (65), Chhattisgarh (64), Bihar (58), Assam (56), Jharkhand (54) and Rajasthan (51) were above the National value i.e. 50 during 2015-16.
