Wholesale Price Index of Major Groups from June-2016 to May-2017

Wholesale price index comprises as far as possible all transactions at first point of bulk sale in the domestic market and released by Office of the Economic Advisor, M/o Commerce and Industries. The current series consists of 102 Primary Articles, 19 Fuel and Power items, and 555 Manufactured Products covering all important items transacted in the economy. The weighing diagram for the WPI series has been derived on the basis of Gross Value of Output. The price data are collected on a self-disclosure basis from individual private sector firms and official sources. National Sample Survey Office also facilitates collection of price data from organized manufacturing units. The current series of Wholesale Price Index has 2011-12 as Base Year.

Primary Articles have a weightage of 22.61756 in Wholesale Price Index. The Wholesale Price Index of Primary Articles decreased from 132 in the month of June 2016 to 126.5 in the month of May 2017. It has shown total decrease of -5.5 point in Wholesale Price Index during the period from June 2016 to May 2017. However, there have been inter-month fluctuations in the Wholesale Price Index for Primary Articles during this period; ranging from minimum of 126.5 points in the month of May 2017 to maximum of 132 points in the month of June 2016. The monthly average value of the Wholesale Price Index of Primary Articles during this period was 128.9 points.

Fuel & Power have a weightage of 13.1519 in Wholesale Price Index. The Wholesale Price Index of Fuel & Power increased from 85.2 in the month of June 2016 to 90.8 in the month of May 2017. It has shown total increase of 5.6 point in Wholesale Price Index during the period from June 2016 to May 2017. However, there have been inter-month fluctuations in the Wholesale Price Index for Fuel & Power during this period; ranging from minimum of 81.1 points in the month of August 2016 to maximum of 94.5 points in the month of February 2017. The monthly average value of the Wholesale Price Index of Fuel & Power during this period was 88.3 points.

Manufactured Products have a weightage of 64.23054 in Wholesale Price Index. The Wholesale Price Index of Manufactured Products increased from 110 in the month of June 2016 to 112.6 in the month of May 2017. It has shown total increase of 2.6 point in Wholesale Price Index during the period from June 2016 to May 2017. However, there have been inter-month fluctuations in the Wholesale Price Index for Manufactured Products during this period; ranging from minimum of 110 points in the month of June 2016 to maximum of 112.6 points in the month of May 2017. The monthly average value of the Wholesale Price Index of Manufactured Products during this period was 111.2 points.
