The main objective of Prime Ministers Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP) is to generate self-employment opportunities in rural as well as urban areas through establishment of micro-enterprises in the non-farm sector by helping traditional artisans and unemployed youth.
In total Estimated employment generated under PMEGP were 378907, 357502, 323362 and 199524 during 2013-14, 2014-15, 2015-16, 2016-17 (as on 30.11.2016) respectively. The top 10 States/UTs in terms of estimated employment generated under PMEGP during 2016-17 (as on 30.11.2016) were: Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, West Bengal, Assam, Bihar, Tamil Nadu, Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, Tripura and Kerala.
Estimated employment generated in Uttar Pradesh under PMEGP was 22843 during 2016-17. It accounted 11.45% of the total estimated employment generated under PMEGP during same period. Estimated employment generated in Karnataka under PMEGP was 21006 during 2016-17. It accounted 10.53% of the total estimated employment generated under PMEGP during same period. Estimated employment generated in West Bengal under PMEGP was 17636 during 2016-17. It accounted 8.84% of the total estimated employment generated under PMEGP during same period. Estimated employment generated in Assam under PMEGP was 15842 during 2016-17. It accounted 7.94% of the total estimated employment generated under PMEGP during same period. Estimated employment generated in Bihar under PMEGP was 12224 during 2016-17. It accounted 6.13% of the total estimated employment generated under PMEGP during same period.
These top 5 states accounted for 44.88% of the total estimated employment generated under PMEGP in India as a whole during 2016-17 (as on 30.11.2016).
The number of estimated employment generated under PMEGP in Tamil Nadu was 12068 during 2016-17, accounted 6.05% of the total estimated employment generated in India. The number of estimated employment generated under PMEGP in Odisha was 11048 during 2016-17, accounted 5.54% of the total estimated employment generated in India. The number of estimated employment generated under PMEGP in Andhra Pradesh was 10524 during 2016-17, accounted 5.27% of the total estimated employment generated in India. The number of estimated employment generated under PMEGP in Tripura was 9241 during 2016-17, accounted 4.63% of the total estimated employment generated in India. The number of estimated employment generated under PMEGP in Kerala was 6556 during 2016-17, accounted 3.29% of the total estimated employment generated in India.
The above mentioned top 10 states accounted for 69.66% of the total estimated employment generated under PMEGP in India as a whole during 2016-17 (as on 30.11.2016).
