Animal husbandry, fisheries and dairy development contributes in country’s economy as it provides livelihood to farmers and labourers. Livestock are domesticated animals raised in an agricultural setting to produce commodities such as food and fibre.
Livestock are generally raised for profit. Department of Animal Husbandry Dairying & Fisheries (DADF) is responsible for matters relating to livestock production, preservation, and protection from disease and improvement of stocks and dairy development. It also looks after all matters related to fishing and fisheries, inland and marine.
Numerous datasets have been shared by department of animal husbandry under ministry of agriculture on https://data.gov.in/. These datasets are valuable in terms of analyzing the yearly production through different prospects.
Livestock census data is also available which actually covers the census of livestock, poultry, implements and machinery used for livestock rearing. Thus, it is the only source that provides detailed information for these groups. Livestock Census is conducted in every five years in India. It has been observed that India has largest livestock numbers in the world. One can get the data on number of Non Households Enterprises and Institutions Owning Animals/Poultry Birds in Rural and Urban Combined, livestock population, Major livestock products etc. Not only this, dataset like the Estimates Of Yield Rates, And Share Of Ram/Weather, Ewe, Lamb In Wool Production; Estimates Of Production, Yield Rates And Share Of Animals In Meat Production; Estimates Of Yield Rates And Share Of Fowls And Duck In Egg Production etc are also available. Thus, it is believed that these datasets can prove to be useful to the scientists, planners, veterinarians, administrators and various research organizations or institutions involved in the development of livestock and poultry sectors.
