Various skill development schemes/ programmes are being implemented by Central Ministries/ Departments for sectoral demand for skilled manpower. A number of these schemes are being implemented on pan India basis with training in various state. The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship has Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY), which is the flagship skill development scheme.
During the year 2016-17 (till October, 2016), the total number of persons trained was 426329. The top 10 States/UTs in terms of number of persons trained during 2016-17 (till October, 2016) were: Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Punjab, West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
The number of persons trained in Uttar Pradesh was 57870 during 2016-17 (till October, 2016). It accounted for 13.57% of the total number of persons trained during the same time period. The number of persons trained in Delhi was 45092 during 2016-17 (till October, 2016). It accounted for 10.58% of the total number of persons trained during the same time period. The number of persons trained in Madhya Pradesh was 40968 during 2016-17 (till October, 2016). It accounted for 9.61% of the total number of persons trained during the same time period. The number of persons trained in Rajasthan was 34677 during 2016-17 (till October, 2016). It accounted for 8.13% of the total number of persons trained during the same time period. The number of persons trained in Tamil Nadu was 27898 during 2016-17 (till October, 2016). It accounted for 6.54% of the total number of persons trained during the same time period.
Persons trained in Maharashtra was 26134 during 2016-17 (till October, 2016), which accounted 6.13% of the total persons trained during the same period. Persons trained in Punjab was 25507 during 2016-17 (till October, 2016), which accounted 5.98% of the total persons trained during the same period. Persons trained in West Bengal was 24531 during 2016-17 (till October, 2016), which accounted 5.75% of the total persons trained during the same period. Persons trained in Andhra Pradesh was 21509 during 2016-17 (till October, 2016), which accounted 5.05% of the total persons trained during the same period. Persons trained in Telangana was 17714 during 2016-17 (till October, 2016), which accounted 4.16% of the total persons trained during the same period.
The above mentioned top 10 states/UTs accounted for 75.51% of the total number of persons trained as a whole during 2016-17 (till October, 2016).
