Top 10 States in Allocation of Foodgrains under National Food Security Act in 2015-16

The allocation of foodgrains (rice and wheat) for National Food Security Act (NFSA) in India was 28945.67 thousand tonnes during 2015-16. The top 10 states in terms of the allocation of foodgrains (rice and wheat) for NFSA were: Bihar, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Karnataka, Chhattisgarh, West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and Haryana during 2015-16.

The allocation of foodgrains (rice and wheat) for NFSA in Bihar was 5241.28 thousand tonnes during 2015-16. It was 18.11% of the allocation of foodgrains (rice and wheat) for NFSA in India during 2015-16.

The allocation of foodgrains (rice and wheat) for NFSA in Maharashtra was 4605.19 thousand tonnes during 2015-16. It was 15.91% of the allocation of foodgrains (rice and wheat) for NFSA in India during 2015-16. The allocation of foodgrains (rice and wheat) for NFSA in Madhya Pradesh was 3390.02 thousand tonnes during 2015-16. It was 11.71% of the allocation of foodgrains (rice and wheat) for NFSA in India during 2015-16.

The allocation of foodgrains (rice and wheat) for NFSA in Rajasthan was 2791.57 thousand tonnes during 2015-16. It was 9.64% of the allocation of foodgrains (rice and wheat) for NFSA in India during 2015-16. The allocation of foodgrains (rice and wheat) for NFSA in Karnataka was 2608.84 thousand tonnes during 2015-16. It was 9.01% of the allocation of foodgrains (rice and wheat) for NFSA in India during 2015-16.

These top 5 states accounted for 64.38% of the total allocation of foodgrains (rice and wheat) for NFSA in India as a whole during 2015-16.

The allocation of foodgrains (rice and wheat) for NFSA in Chhattisgarh was 1384.06 thousand tonnes during 2015-16 (4.78% of All India). The allocation of foodgrains (rice and wheat) for NFSA in West Bengal was 1240.79 thousand tonnes during 2015-16 (4.29% of All India). The allocation of foodgrains (rice and wheat) for NFSA in Uttar Pradesh was 1142.31 thousand tonnes during 2015-16 (3.95% of All India). The allocation of foodgrains (rice and wheat) for NFSA in Punjab was 870.12 thousand tonnes during 2015-16 (3.01% of All India). The allocation of foodgrains (rice and wheat) for NFSA in Haryana was 795 thousand tonnes during 2015-16 (2.75% of All India).

The above mentioned top 10 states accounted for 83.16% of the total allocation of foodgrains (rice and wheat) for NFSA in India as a whole during 2015-16.
