Performance of Manufacturing Sector in 2015

The performance of manufacturing sector is very important for the Indian economy, as it provides employment to the millions of persons in India. Of late, the Indian manufacturing sector has been facing onslaught of the MNCs located in various countries around the world, particularly China; as well as cheap imports from Chinese manufacturers.

The performance of manufacturing sector has been assessed in the year 2015 as per the IIP (Base 2004-05=100). The manufacturing growth rate in the month of January, 2015 was 3.4% on the year-on-year basis.

The manufacturing growth rate in the month of February, 2015 was 5.1%. It increased by 1.7 percentage points as compared to the month of January, 2015. The manufacturing growth rate in the month of March, 2015 was 2.7%. It decreased by -2.4 percentage points as compared to the month of February, 2015.

The manufacturing growth rate in the month of April, 2015 was 3.9%. It increased by 1.2 percentage points as compared to the month of March, 2015. The manufacturing growth rate in the month of May, 2015 was 2.1%. It decreased by -1.8 percentage points as compared to the month of April, 2015. The manufacturing growth rate in the month of June, 2015 was 5.2%. It increased by 3.1 percentage points as compared to the month of May, 2015.

The manufacturing growth rate in the month of July, 2015 was 4.8%. It decreased by -0.4 percentage points as compared to the month of June, 2015. The manufacturing growth rate in the month of August, 2015 was 6.6%. It increased by 1.8 percentage points as compared to the month of July, 2015. The manufacturing growth rate in the month of September, 2015 was 2.7%. It decreased by -3.9 percentage points as compared to the month of August, 2015.

The manufacturing growth rate in the month of October, 2015 was 10.6%. It increased by 7.9 percentage points as compared to the month of September, 2015. It was the best performance recorded by the Indian manufacturing sector in the year 2015.

The manufacturing growth rate in the month of November, 2015 was -4.6%. It decreased by -15.2 percentage points as compared to the month of October, 2015. It was the worst performance recorded by the Indian manufacturing sector in the year 2015 not only on the year-on-year basis, but also on the month-on-month basis.

The manufacturing growth rate in the month of December, 2015 was -2.2%. Though, it was negative in absolute terms, yet it was an improvement by 2.4 percentage points as compared to the month of November, 2015.
