Indian Fleet by Age of Vessels: Growth from 2010 to 2014

The total number of vessels in the Indian fleet in the year 2010 was 1040. In terms of the age group, the number of vessels in the Indian fleet in the age group upto 5 years was 225 vessels; age group 6-10 years was 120 vessels; age group 11-15 years was 121 vessels; age group 16 – 20 years was 128 vessels and age group over 20 years was 446 vessels.

The total number of vessels in the Indian fleet in the year 2011 was 1122. In terms of the age group, the number of vessels in the Indian fleet in the age group upto 5 years was 264 vessels; age group 6-10 years was 116 vessels; age group 11-15 years was 135 vessels; age group 16 – 20 years was 141 vessels and age group over 20 years was 466 vessels. The total number of vessels in the Indian fleet in the year 2012 was 1154. In terms of the age group, the number of vessels in the Indian fleet in the age group upto 5 years was 295 vessels; age group 6-10 years was 138 vessels; age group 11-15 years was 137 vessels; age group 16 – 20 years was 135 vessels and age group over 20 years was 449 vessels.

The total number of vessels in the Indian fleet in the year 2013 was 1199. In terms of the age group, the number of vessels in the Indian fleet in the age group upto 5 years was 308 vessels; age group 6-10 years was 152 vessels; age group 11-15 years was 139 vessels; age group 16 – 20 years was 131 vessels and age group over 20 years was 469 vessels. The total number of vessels in the Indian fleet in the year 2014 was 1204. In terms of the age group, the number of vessels in the Indian fleet in the age group upto 5 years was 281 vessels; age group 6-10 years was 174 vessels; age group 11-15 years was 137 vessels; age group 16 – 20 years was 133 vessels and age group over 20 years was 479 vessels.

Thus, the growth of Indian fleet has been lacklustre in the vessels in the age group 16 – 20 years i.e. increase of mere 5 vessels; while it was quite good in the vessels in the age group upto 5 years i.e. maximum increase of 56 vessels during the period from 2010 to 2014.
