Tree Cover in India during the year 2015

The percent of geographical area under tree cover in India was estimated to be 2.82% during 2015. The top 10 States/UTs in terms of the estimated percentage tree cover were: Lakshadweep, Daman and Diu, Goa, Chandigarh, Kerala, Delhi, Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Puducherry, Gujarat and Jammu and Kashmir during 2015.

The percent of geographical area under tree cover in Lakshadweep was 12.5% during 2015. The percentage of tree cover in Lakshadweep was higher by 9.68 percentage points as compared to tree cover at All India level.

The percent of geographical area under tree cover in Daman and Diu was 9.18% during 2015. The percentage of tree cover in Daman and Diu was higher by 6.36 percentage points as compared to tree cover at All India level. The percent of geographical area under tree cover in Goa was 8.78% during 2015. The percentage of tree cover in Goa was higher by 5.96 percentage points as compared to tree cover at All India level.

The percent of geographical area under tree cover in Chandigarh was 7.8% during 2015. The percentage of tree cover in Chandigarh was higher by 4.98 percentage points as compared to tree cover at All India level. The percent of geographical area under tree cover in Kerala was 7.59% during 2015. The percentage of tree cover in Kerala was higher by 4.77 percentage points as compared to tree cover at All India level.

The percent of geographical area under tree cover in Delhi was 7.49% during 2015. The percentage of tree cover in Delhi was higher by 4.67 percentage points as compared to tree cover at All India level. The percent of geographical area under tree cover in Dadra and Nagar Haveli was 5.72% during 2015. The percentage of tree cover in Dadra and Nagar Haveli was higher by 2.9 percentage points as compared to tree cover at All India level. The percent of geographical area under tree cover in Puducherry was 5.63% during 2015. The percentage of tree cover in Puducherry was higher by 2.81 percentage points as compared to tree cover at All India level.

The percent of geographical area under tree cover in Gujarat was 4.04% during 2015. The percentage of tree cover in Gujarat was higher by 1.22 percentage points as compared to tree cover at All India level. The percent of geographical area under tree cover in Jammu and Kashmir was 3.76% during 2015. The percentage of tree cover in Jammu and Kashmir was higher by 0.94 percentage points as compared to tree cover at All India level.
