Total number of registered newspaper in India increased by 5.7% from 82104 in 2010-11 to 86754 in 2011-12. During 2011-2012, Uttar Pradesh accounted for maximum number of registered newspapers (13539) with a share of 15.6 per cent, Maharashtra (11229) and Delhi (10940) occupied second and third position with 12.9 & 12.6 percentage share in total newspaper registered in India. Among all the states/uts, highest yoy growth in number of registered newspapers was observed for Uttaranchal, which grew at 14.4% in 2011-12.
