India has witnessed a fluctuating trend in production of cotton clothes during 2000-2013. In 2000-01, production of cotton clothes was 19718 million sq metre with annual growth rate 3.8% across the country, which increased to 34152 million sq metre with annual growth 11.7% in 2012-13.
During 2000-13, highest annual growth of cotton clothes production (15.6%) was observed in 2005-06 and lowest annual growth rate (-6.6%) was observed in 2003-04.
