Average Milk Yield per Exotic/Crossbred Cow across India during 2007-08 to 2011-12

India has witnessed a fluctuating trend in average milk yield per exotic/crossbred cow during 2007-2012. In 2007-08, average milk yield per exotic/crossbred cow was 6.47 kg per day across the country, which increased to 6.97 kg per day in 2011-12. Highest average milk yield per exotic/crossbred cow (10.95 kg per day) was in Punjab in 2011-12 followed by 9.01 kg per day in 2007-08 as compared to other states. The lowest average milk yield per exotic/crossbred cow (3.86 kg per day) was in Assam in 2011-12 followed by 3.36 kg per day in 2007-08 as compared to other states.

Nineteen States/UTs Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Nagaland, Orissa, Sikkim, Tamil Nadu, Tripura, Uttarakhand, West Bengal, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Lakshadweep and Puducherry are below the National average (6.97 kg per day) in 2011-12.

Note: Sikkim, Dadra & Nagar Haveli, Daman & Diu and Delhi figures from 2007-08 onwards are estimated based on the number of animals in milk as per livestock census 2007 and the yield rate of concerned neighbouring state (for Sikkim yield rate of West Bengal, Dadra & Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu yield rate of Gujarat and for Delhi yield rate of Haryana) has been used except year 2011-12 data which is estimated based on previous year data calculated by annual growth of year 2010-11.
