State/UT-wise Infant Mortality Rate (IMR) during 2004-2012

India has witnessed a decreasing trend in IMR during 2004-2012. In 2004, IMR was 58 across the country, which decreased to 42 in 2012. The highest IMR was observed in Madhya Pradesh (79) in 2004 and 56 in 2012 as compared to other states.

The lowest IMR was observed in Goa and Manipur (10) in 2012 and 12 in Kerala in 2004 as compared to other states. IMR in eight States Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Meghalaya were above the National average (42) in 2012.
