Cyclonic Storms/Severe Cyclonic Storms formed over the North Indian Ocean during 1952-2012

The data refers to the number of cyclonic storms/severe cyclonic storms formed over the North Indian Ocean during the period from 1951 to 2012.
There have been total 280 cyclonic storms/severe cyclonic storms formed over the North Indian Ocean during the period from 1952 to 2012 with an annual average of 4.59 cyclonic storms/severe cyclonic storms.

The years having occurrence of maximum number of cyclonic storms/severe cyclonic storms formed over the North Indian Ocean was 1976 with 9 storms followed by the year 1966 with 8 storms. Each one of the eight years viz. 1964, 1968, 1970, 1971, 1972, 1974, 1975 and 1985 had 7 cyclonic storms/severe cyclonic storms.

The detailed analysis of month wise data shows that the maximum number of cyclonic storms/severe cyclonic storms formed over the North Indian Ocean during the period from 1952 to 2012, have occurred in the month of November, which accounts for 74 (26.43%) out of the total 280 cyclonic storms/severe cyclonic storms formed over the North Indian Ocean during the period. November month had an average of 1.21 cyclonic storms/severe cyclonic storms per year during 1952 to 2012.The second highest occurrence of cyclonic storms/severe cyclonic storms took place during the month of October which had 54 cyclonic storms/severe cyclonic storms during the period. Third spot was taken by the month of May with 49 cyclonic storms/severe cyclonic storms per year during 1952 to 2012. The minimum occurrence of cyclonic storms/severe cyclonic storms took place in the month of February and March with an average of 1 cyclonic storms/severe cyclonic storm.
