Top Ten States in Production of Raw Silk in 2012-13

The top 10 States having the largest production of raw silk in 2012-13, out of the total production of 23679 metric tonne of raw silk in India in 2012-13 are: Karnataka has 8219 metric tonne production of raw silk which constitutes 34.71% of total production of raw silk in India; Andhra Pradesh has 6551 metric tonne production of raw silk which constitutes 27.67% of total production of raw silk in India; West Bengal has 2069 metric tonne production of raw silk which constitutes 8.74% of total production of raw silk in India; Assam has 2068 metric tonne production of raw silk which constitutes 8.73% of total production of raw silk in India; Tamil Nadu has 1185 metric tonne production of raw silk which constitutes 5% of total production of raw silk in India; Jharkhand has 1090 metric tonne production of raw silk which constitutes 4.6% of total production of raw silk in India; Meghalaya has 517 metric tonne production of raw silk which constitutes 2.18% of total production of raw silk in India; Manipur has 419 metric tonne production of raw silk which constitutes 1.77% of total production of raw silk in India; Chattisgarh has 391 metric tonne production of raw silk which constitutes 1.65% of total production of raw silk in India; Nagaland has 324 metric tonne production of raw silk which constitutes 1.37% of total production of raw silk in India.

Note: Data refers to production in public as well as private sector spun silk mills. Total may not tally due to rounding off of the figures. P : Provisional. 1. In year 2010-11 under the head Spun Silk Yarn Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab and Tamil Nadu accounted for 385, 150, 23 and 27 metric tonnes respectively. 2. In year 2010-11 under the head Noil Yarn Karnatka and Madhya Pradesh accounted 385, 85 and 210 metric tonnes respectively.
