Public Debt (Total Liabilities) as % of Revenue Receipt from 2007-08 to 2013-14

Public debt (total liabilities) as percentage of revenue receipt of all the states along with the UTs of Delhi & Puducherry has decreased from 195.68% in 2007-08 to 157.58% in 2013-14 (BE). There were ups and downs in public debt (total liabilities) as percentage of revenue receipt in this period. Public debt (total liabilities) as percentage of revenue receipt of all the states along with Delhi & Puducherry was at the highest level i.e. 201.27% in 2011-12 during the said period. While the lowest level i.e. 150.42% Public debt (total liabilities) as percentage of revenue receipt of all these states was in 2010-11.

The 10 states/UTs with highest level of Public debt (total liabilities) as percentage of revenue receipt in 2013-14 are: Uttarakhand with 340.89%; West Bengal with 282.97%; Punjab with 241.29%; Kerala with 231.3%; Gujarat with 216.1%; Maharashtra with 202.55%; Himachal Pradesh with 200.91%; Haryana with 176.04%; Rajasthan with 170.27% and Puducherry with 166.6%.

Out of these 10 states, Uttarakhand, Maharashtra, Haryana and Puducherry have shown an increase in the Public debt (total liabilities) as percentage of revenue receipt during the period. West Bengal, Punjab, Kerala, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh and Rajasthan have shown a decline in the Public debt (total liabilities) as percentage of revenue receipt during the period.
